Who Is the Supervisor and What Is Their Role?
The supervisor is the person who helps you develop your thesis.
They have appropriate knowledge and support the execution of your topic.
It's worth thinking about and selecting the right supervisor as soon as possible, why? The popular ones are quickly taken.
What Types of Supervisors Are There?
There are currently two types: internal and external.
The internal supervisor is the person who is an instructor appointed by the department.
The external supervisor is the person who relates to your field, has a degree, and doesn't work within the university.
The simplest option is to choose an internal supervisor who you think can provide the most help with your topic.
If you want an external supervisor, there's no obstacle to that either, but you still need to choose an in-institution supervisor, whose name at least appears on the hard cover of your thesis.
For an external supervisor, you can also choose your friend who has already graduated and relates to your field.
The First Step: Making Contact
First, contact the supervisor in person for the purpose of invitation and to discuss what your plans are (if you have any 👀).
Later comes the formality of writing them a "love" email so that your intention and their confirmation response are in writing.
Second Step: Maintaining Contact
Maintaining contact with the supervisor will be your task.
They won't be on your case like your mom in childhood, telling you to clean your room.
If you have the opportunity and time, organize as many personal consultations as possible, everything is better in person.
Of course, the easier and more comfortable option is to talk online, but this depends on the instructor's flexibility.
The point is continuous contact.
It's worth preparing your thesis so that you send them the completed sections so they can see whether you're on the right track.
There are supervisors who even require this.
It can happen that they criticize your work and are strict, but believe me, they're giving constructive criticism about your work in YOUR interest.
When consultations occur, always be prepared and full of questions, as this allows the joint work to go smoothly.
If you get stuck on anything, dare to ask and seek help.
We know there's always the biggest rush a week before the submission deadline, but in your own interest, it's worth thinking ahead a bit, because if your supervisor rejects it due to any error, you still have time to fix it before the final submission.
Summary: Contact the supervisor who is sympathetic and suitable for you as soon as possible, maintain constant contact with them in whatever way that happens.
